When discussing the connection between steel structure houses and rainwater, many people immediately think of steel structures rusting when exposed to water. Indeed, traditional steel structure houses can rust quickly after exposure to wind, sun, and rain, so it's understandable that people have some concerns about this. So, can today's Baotong Steel Structure houses withstand the test of rainy seasons?

Let's first talk about the corrosion resistance of steel itself. Traditional steel, when directly exposed to the air and in contact with rainwater, can rust quickly. However, the steel used in modern light steel structure houses is primarily aluminum-zinc coated steel. This type of steel has a mixed zinc and aluminum coating applied to the surface of traditional steel. When the steel surface comes into contact with a corrosion source, the zinc in the coating is corroded first. As the zinc corrodes, the aluminum exposed to the air forms a dense and stable oxide film, which protects the remaining zinc layer from corrosion. This has been concluded through experiments.

  Corrosion Test:

Aluminum-zinc coated materials perform well in salt spray tests. In a 5% salt spray environment:

Rebar: Rebar without any protection rusts immediately.

Ordinary heavy steel: Heavy steel with a simple coating undergoes severe corrosion within seven days of testing.

Light steel: Only the aluminum-zinc coated steel surface remains smooth and bright, with almost no signs of corrosion.

In addition to the excellent corrosion resistance of the framework or keel itself, various measures are taken to isolate theframework or keel from the outside world in steel structure houses. A thick moisture-proof membrane is laid on the foundation, double-layer waterproof asphalt is brushed on the ground, and black waterproof membranes are added at the framework or keel for waterproofing.

Between the Oriented Strand Board (OSB) and calcium silicate board, there is moisture-proof breathing paper (waterproof and breathable), ensuring good waterproof performance of the walls and regulating indoor relative humidity. The eaves are extended by 300mm-600mm to directly divert water, and there are dedicated water supply and drainage pipes. The roof is entirely laid with waterproof membranes, with special waterproof treatment at the eaves. The asphalt shingles on the roof are currently among the best in terms of waterproof performance internationally, allowing water to directly flow down as droplets along the shingles. This achieves a 360-degree moisture-proof effect.

Steel structure is a robust and resilient structural system with a wide range of applications. It can be constructed in actively steep or extremely harsh weather conditions, where it may even have more advantages. Therefore, it is widely used in service buildings such as leisure farms, tourist attractions, private villas, clubs, garden nursery management buildings, and private leisure houses. It is a trustworthy choice.
