Strengthening steel structure buildings

2025-01-23    123

  Steel structure reinforcement refers to the overall or partial strengthening of existing buildings with steel materials. The primary measures for reinforcing steel structures include:

  Reducing loads and modifying the steel structure design drawings;

  Enhancing the cross-sectional area and connection strength of original structural members to prevent factors such as the propagation of cracks in steel connections. Other reinforcement methods can also be adopted if there is proven experience.

  For steel structure projects that require reinforcement, they are generally classified into partial reinforcement and overall reinforcement based on the degree of damage.

  (1) Partial reinforcement of steel structures involves strengthening members or connection nodes with insufficient bearing capacity. In steel structure factories, this mainly includes methods such as increasing the cross-sectional area of members, reducing the free length of members, and reinforcing connection nodes.

  (2) Overall reinforcement of steel structure workshops refers to reinforcing the entire structure without altering its static calculation diagram, and it is categorized separately from reinforcement methods that do change the static calculation diagram.

  (3) Adding or reinforcing the support system in steel structure projects is also an effective method for reinforcing the structural system.

  (4) Among the reinforcement methods for steel structures, increasing the cross-sectional area of original members is the most time-consuming and labor-intensive. Changing the static calculation diagram is the most effective method, offering diverse forms and significantly reducing costs.
