  1. Saving construction duration: Steel structures have a shorter installation time. The steel structural components used for engineering construction can be mass-produced and assembled on site, which can greatly shorten the construction duration and save time.

  2. Expanding reasonable indoor space: Because the compressive strength and bending compressive strength of steel are 1.5 times that of concrete, the cross-section can be reduced under the same compressive strength conditions, thereby increasing the reasonable space.

  3. Recyclable: The engineering materials of steel structures can be recycled, which reduces a lot of urban waste.

  4. Good seismic rating function: Because the steel frame structure belongs to a flexible structure with light weight, it can effectively reduce the impact analysis of seismic response and disasters, which is beneficial to seismic rating.

  5. Poor flame retardancy: The thermal conductivity of steel is much greater than that of concrete structures, and its fire resistance is far inferior to reinforced concrete. When the ambient temperature reaches 600℃, the steel frame structure will basically lose all its rigidity and strength. Therefore, fire resistance is considered an important aspect in steel structure buildings.

  6. Poor corrosion resistance: Because the iron atoms on the surface of the steel react with the oxygen in the air to form oxide rust. Rust can cause stress, thereby compromising the safe use of steel structures and shortening their service life. Therefore, reasonable anticorrosion measures for steel structures are necessary to ensure their service life.
